The Legend Lake is located in Heves county, between the city of Füzesabony and city of Szihalom next to the highway Nr3 .
The gravel pit is located 120km far from both Budapest and Debrecen. Can be reached with a one-hour-drive by car from both directions on the M3 motorway.
Gravel mining began here at the beginning of the 1960s. A few years late, in the mid-60s, the first fish were arrived. Until the beginning of the 2010s, the lake was managed by an association. From that period until today it was unmanaged, there was no fishing activities on the lake. After a long time, the opportunity for angles to challenge themselves on this unadulterated, 30 hectares gravel pit, is available again.
The lake is located in an area of 40 hectares. During the recultivation of the area after the closure of the mine, it was of particular importance for us to return the lake and its surroundings to nature as much as possible, e.g. afforestation, plating of forests.
Over the decades, the zebra mussel has proliferated in the lake and can be found on almost the entire lake bottom. Beyond mussels, there are also many bloodworms and small snails living in the lake, which are an excellent source of food for the fish in the lake.
The lake bed can be called very diverse, with depths ranging from 1m to 7m. Average water depth is between 4-6m. The diversity of the lake bed is ensured by the following elements: submerged trees, islands, changing of shallow humps and deep pits and all of them are covered with shells and snails.
In the more than 60-year-old grave pit, almost every species of freshwater fish can be found that are occuring in Hungary. The lake has a significant stock of big carp, grass carp and don’t forget to mention the predatory fish too: European catfish, pikes over 10kg, zander offer you memorable catches.
There are NO bullhead catfish in the lake!
