The Carrs Angling Lakes

The Carrs Angling Lakes

Halcyon lake was first dug in 2008, and matured incredibly quickly. It is smaller than the lakes one and two, but just as exciting. The Lake was originally designed as a match lake but its use was changed to a pleasure lake in 2015. The old match lake was reshaped into The ‘Halcyon’. The new shape is packed with new features and only retained the best parts of the old match lake. The lake is stocked mostly with carp to 10lb averaging about 3-4lb. The other species stocked are tench (green and golden), barbel, chub and ide. All species are growing very quickly in this lake. This lake is very popular especially throughout summer when the carp are in full feed mode, float fishing is quite effective also, just be ready for some hard fights! Heavy weights in short spaces of time are common, and now with the added ide and chub this water can produce some exciting full days of action.

TIP: As fish as closer to you in this lake, it pays to keep extra quiet, this includes vibrations.

Interesting Information: This lake offers the best chance to catch golden tench. Also if it is raining, there is a very good chance of catching barbel here through the summer months. The pegs at the far end of the lake are generally always nicely sheltered from any wind.

Features: 7 islands, various reed beds, deep water holes in central locations. Flat plateaus surround the main central island. Most pegs have a steady slope away from the platform and shallow swims either side of the peg. Most closer Islands are surrounded by a 3ft deep by 2.5ft wide ledge which drops away to 5ft, this then steadily increases up to the angler.

This lake is ideally suited to most methods of fishing.

2 acres of mixed fishing to suit everyone.
A popular pleasure lake, Lake One produces quality very mixed bags of fish species throughout the year, as with all the other lakes the water is very coloured, meaning fish can be caught very close in. This Lake is Heavily Stocked with carp to 26lb, tench (green and golden) to 4.5lb, roach to 1.5lb, bream & skimmers to 5lb, ide to 4lb, rudd to 1.5lb, barbel to 5.5lb, chub to 4lb, golden orfe to 3.5lb and lovely “buttery coloured” crucians to well over 2lb. Even occasional Eels can also show up. The weights of the barbel, chub and ide are increasing rapidly at the moment, so there is every chance you could catch a new record! Due to the large variety of swims Lake One suits all methods of coarse fishing used on still waters, particulary effective are float fished dog biscuits or bread in the summer months around the margins.

Features: Lake one contains three islands, the main water outlet for the complex and an old lake bed, as well as many reed beds, depths average 4-5ft.

Lake Two

Another two acres of mixed fishing to suit everyone.
Carp have been officially recorded at 26lb in this lake but rumours are rife of much bigger fish prowling the margins and large expanses of open water. It is very possible you could catch a new lake record as the fish are young and still growing fast. As well as the carp the species from Lake One are all present, to the same weights.
All of our fish are in excellent fighting condition throughout the whole of the year, Be prepared… You will not be disappointed by their fighting abilities! Wind direction can be key, although sheltered even a slight breeze may push a lot of fish to one end of the lake in search of food. TIP:Unusually for the northeast, the carp in lake two seem to feed right through our winter, ledgered baits, esp maggots and bread are a popular approach… if the temperature creeps above freezing!

Generally Boilies are best fished on a pop up, around 50% more fish are caught on pop ups, in Lake One and Two.

Features: Lake two has a large expanse of open water with two large islands, one at either end. There are also number of reed bed edges to fish to also, these tend to hold a lot of fish year round, but beware! The fish know their sanctuary and will be quick to blast into the reeds in the blink of an eye.  Corners and small bays can be just as prolific as the open water for silver fish species too. Just as in Lake One, there is a good head of bream, tench, ide, rudd, roach, perch and hybrids. The lake also contains the main water inlet for the site. Depths average 5ft.

Silver Lake

Our Newest lake is also our smallest, and shallowest. The silver lake is the first lake you will see as the approach the site, as its name suggests it is heavily stocked with the silver fish species found in the other lakes. There are a number of tench and crucians for added variety. This lake is ideally suited for beginners, there are vast quantities of fish that have never seen a hook in here. The silver lake has matured nicely into an excellent pool over the past few years. Perfect for the pole or rod, this shallow lake will heat up quickly in the spring and so will the action, we are still expecting large weight gains in all the species. TIP: Try a variety of baits to tempt different fish species.

Features: The lake islands are planted up with a large variety of plant species, many exotic to add interest and variety to the lake, it has a deliberately more ornamental feel. Depths average 3ft. There are two islands, a few small ledges can be found on the islands off certain pegs. Much deeper water (averaging 8ft) can be found between these two islands and also at the end of the lake closest to the carpark, these are certain to be popular spots in cooler or very hot weather. The first peg you get to is reputed to be the best.
