Sally and Peter welcomes you to Summerhayes Fisheries Set on 24 acres of the most beautiful and interesting parts of Somerset. We are proud to be a registered county wildlife site. Sumerhayes fisheries has 5 well maintained ponds with up to 92 swims. All ponds are well stocked with carp, tench, perch, bream, roach, rudd and chub. Most swims are disabled friendly.
Sellick’s Pond
Sellick’s pond is oval in shape with a long island running through the middle, suitable for all types of fishing. Tight to the island are plenty of ledges, great for the summer. The carp reach 10lb with a few doubles, bream up to 5lb, crucian up to 2.5lb and tench up to 4lb, which could give you a nice mixed bag.
The lake is 5 foot deep with a shallow end to the South, where you’ll find a small island with a few pegs nearby covered by trees. All 23 pegs are constructed from timber which protrude one metre outwards, ideal for keep nets if used. Pegs 1 and 23 are close to the car park and disabled friendly.
Long’s Match Lake
Long’s is positioned alongside the track which runs through the fishery. The pegs along the track feature stepped access down to dug out swims. All the other pegs around the pond are level with the grass, this includes two disabled friendly platforms. There are 40 pegs in total, all well spaced apart.
The large central island gives each swim approximately 16 metres, a good reach for a pole or waggler. There are a couple of pegs where you can fish to the point of the island, ideal for the tip rod. Long’s is well stocked with carp and silvers with a few surprises. Carp can reach double figures and there are some good sized bream.
The island is flat and covered in bladed sedge with a row of weeping willow planted on the north side, where you’ll benefit from the cover alongside the dark water in the summer months. On the bank between each swim is a small hedgerow which gives good cover for the margins.
The best baits to use during summer are paste, meat and pellet, and for the winter months, expander and pinkies.
Willow Pool
Willow pond has great cover from a 2 metre bank of soil covered in trees and shrubs; it is a good-sized pond with 14 swims. Peg 14 is disabled friendly with its own parking just off the main track. This pond contains plenty of carp and silvers with some nice sized perch. The three islands are predominantly covered with weeping willows, creating the perfect habitat. The islands are within a ten-metre reach, easy fishing for a pole or waggler. The banks are covered in grass with some wood chipped areas, a good spot for a family day out.
Natural baits work well here all year round, so bring some maggot and worm.
Big 8
Big 8 is a well-stocked specimen lake. All the carp are in excellent condition, which include fifty 20lb’s and two 30lb’s, one of them called Moley, which was caught in 2018 at 35lb 11oz.
Formerly known as Perch Pit, this pond is over fifty years old and was dug out by the workers of Colthurst and Symons for the Brick Industry.
This is our largest pond with an area of 3.5 acres. It’s set in the centre of the fishery and has 10 swims that are well spaced apart. Big 8 is rectangular in design with two spits protruding on opposite sides, between them is a small island which helps to form the shape of a number 8.
The railway side has its own track leading to 4 dug out swims. The edges are secure with oak sleepers and includes steps down to the woodchipped swim, perfect for a bit of cover on a windy day and a popular spot for night fishing. The main road side has 6 swims, two on each bank.
There are four large lily pads of different colours, all of which include underwater reed beds.
Denny’s
This is a memorial pond names after Sally’s father, the late Denny Barnes. Denny’s pond is for juniors only, however their families are welcome to assist.
There are 2 large weeping willows overhanging the pond which gives good cover for the fish in the summer months. This canal shaped pond has 5 swims and is full of small carp and silvers, ideal for beginners.
